While I still search for missing links in my family tree it is strange that I run across Bernard Hayes just as the Treyvon Martin cases unravels. Bernard was the son of my great uncle Ardene Hayes. He was killed in Las Vegas Nevada in 1968. He was shot 11 times by a white man,Richard Dunn, who first alleged self defense then later pled guilty to avoid the death sentence. Dunn was released from prison in 1978 after serving only 9 years. There was apparently a mixture of misfortunes that kept the wife of the late Hayes from being notified of the parole hearing. This I don't understand because she became very active in civil rights after this. Arlene Hayes(wife of Bernard) also had a son, Gregory Hayes who was shot and killed in a pick up basketball game in Las Vegas, Nevada as well. His killer is serving a life sentence without parole. But the thing that stands out the strongest in comparison to George Zimmerman to me is the fact that Dunn, Bernard Hayes' admitted killer, went on to work with juvenile delinquents in Reno Nevada and was supported by 28 judges and other law enforcement for his works. After 17 years he filed to have his civil rights restored in order to carry a weapon to be promoted in his field as a PEACE OFFICER. Laugh at that. The man who was carrying more than 100 rounds of ammunition, 2 guns, shot and killed 1 man, wounded 2 more and the only reason a 4th wasn't harmed ....the gun jammed. Sound like he knows about making peace. Just thought I'd share. Watch out George Zimmerman could run for Police Chief.
