Isaac Newton Farris Jr.'s tenure as president of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference is under "examination," the chairman of the organization's board said Tuesday.

John Spink,

Isaac Newton Farris speaks at the The Martin Luther King Jr. commemorative service at Ebenezer Baptist Church in Atlanta on Jan. 18, 2010.

The civil rights organization was co-founded by Farris' uncle, the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr.

The Rev. Bernard LaFayette Jr., chairman of the SCLC national board, said Tuesday the board was "still deliberating" Farris' fate. He said a decision could be made by the end of the week.

Guess I have not been keeping up as well as I should.  Was there a problem with his (interim) leadership ?   Or more likely, was it simply time for the appointment/election of a new leader with term limits ?
